PSE Rebate Program Overview
PSE is now offering rebates to customers who install qualifying energy-efficient air conditioning and heating systems. Puget Sound Energy’s goal is to incentivize customers to upgrade to more efficient heating and cooling solutions, thereby reducing their households energy consumption and carbon emissions. According to PSE, ductless systems like mini splits and heat pumps “reduce your electricity use by 50% compared to furnaces and baseboard heaters (from energy.gov).”
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for PSE rebates for air conditioning upgrades, customers typically need to meet certain criteria, which includes:
Location: Customers must be located within PSE’s service territory.
Equipment Requirements: The air conditioning system installed must meet specific energy efficiency standards set by PSE such as being AHRI Certified®. There are also the following requirements:
- Only new, qualifying equipment is eligible for rebates.
- Equipment that is replaced under warranty will not be eligible for second rebate.
- If you have a ductless system, at least one indoor head must be installed in the main living (high-flow) area of the home; not the bedroom only.
Installation: The system must be installed by a licensed contractor who is registered with PSE’s rebate program. Furthermore the installation must comply with all federal, state and local code requirements.
One rebate per qualified single-family residence.
Rebates cannot exceed the pre-tax purchase price of any rebated product.
How Much Money Do You Get Back?
You will receive a $1,500 rebate when you replace your electric resistance heating system with a qualifying air-source heat pump (ducted or ductless).
Income qualified customers may be eligible for a $2,400 Efficiency Boost rebate based on their income levels. If you are a moderate-income customer check the income guidelines on PSE’s website below for eligibility or contact an Energy Advisor at 1-800-562-1482 to ask questions.
How To Apply
If you are interested in receiving a PSE rebate for installing a mini-split, heat pump, or upgraded AC system in your home, follow these steps:
1. Purchase and Installation
Purchase a qualifying heating and cooling system and have it installed by a licensed contractor who is registered with PSE’s rebate program.
2. Submit Rebate Application
Fill out and submit a rebate application form. This form requires an electronic image of your paid installation invoice and purchase receipt for your installed product(s). Make sure the document includes the installation date, installation address, brand, model number(s) of all rebated equipment (include the model number on the invoice), and amount you paid. This application must be submitted within 30 days of the equipment purchase date.
3. Verification and Approval
PSE will review the application to ensure all requirements are met. This may include a verification of the installed equipment’s efficiency and the installation details.
4. Rebate Issuance
Once approved, PSE will issue the rebate in the form of a check or credit, which will be sent to your address on file.
